EAL - English as an Additional Language
At Barnes Farm Infant School, diversity is celebrated and we aim to provide a welcoming, inclusive environment for all children, including those with English as an Additional Language (EAL).
Once your child has settled in, they will be informally assessed to check what support, if any, is required. This then means we can set targets and plan appropriate interventions which are tailored to suit the individual child’s needs, to enable them to access the full curriculum as well as to interact socially with their peers.
Additional Support and Interventions include:
-
intensive support for those new to learning English including Flash Academy support.
-
regular one-to-one or small group language sessions to preteach vocabulary and new concepts.
-
liaising with class teachers to ensure appropriate support within the classroom setting and providing opportunities for using new language in real settings to build confidence.
